Local Organizations Including Camp Jill Scott, TechCore2, PACTS Summer Institute at the Franklin Institute, Science 2 the Max, Coded by Kids and More Will Participate in STEM in North Philly Community Fair.
Local families across North Philadelphia can stop in for information about science and technology summer camps this Saturday, May 20th at Temple’s College of Engineering. According to Jamie Bracey, Director of STEM education at the college, “The demand for free and low cost STEM opportunities continues to drive Temple’s investment in providing access to affordable, high quality services, particularly for inner city students”. In addition to signing up for summer camps , some of the region’s most talented pre-engineering and technology students will meet on Saturday, May 20th to compete to represent Pennsylvania in the upcoming national MESA USA competitions being hosted for the first time in Philadelphia in June. Middle and high school students had to create functional prosthetic devices for amputees for less than $80. Local churches and youth organizations dedicated to empowering students with educational opportunities in STEM are invited be a part of a STEM in N. Philly camp & resource fair. Many are offering free and subsidized camps, including Camp Jill Scott, founded by Philly’s own Grammy award-winning singer Jill Scott, Coded by Kids in local recreation centers, and MESA’s computer science summer camps will each open registration for Summer 2017 session.

The fair will be a gathering for students, parents, educators, community leaders and advocates to share information and resources. Camp sign ups and scholarship information will also be available.
Additionally, MESA USA has chosen the “City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection”, as the destination for one of the nation’s most prestigious STEM competitions, the MESA USA National Engineering Design Challenge taking place at Temple University, June 21-23, 2017.
